590 hp for the Mercedes-AMG GT R, AMG GT RS also on it's way

The Mercedes-AMG GT R has undergone testing for almost over a year now. That's for a reason, Mercedes-AMG wants to be sure that everything is dialled in perfectly. The biggest change lies in the performance: the maximum power output of the GT S is 510 hp, the GT R adds quite a lot to that number.

Almost 600 hp is being cramped into the GT R, 590 hp to be exact. That's a gain of 83 hp compared to the GT S! To reassure that the 4.0-litre V8 can handle the power in the long run the car is being tested at its limits. Mercedes-AMG has to: If the GT R happens to break down a lot it can cause serious damage to their strong reputation. Tuners have showed that without too much effort a lot of power can be added to the V8, but Mercedes-AMG doesn't want to take any risk here, and rightly so.

Sources, which are tightly connected to Mercedes-AMG, also told us that there will be a special edition of the AMG GT next year, called the AMG GT 'Röte Sau'. This car will be a tribute to the godfather of the sport sedan and the car that started it all for AMG: the 300SEL 6.3 AMG Red Sow. It's also being built to celebrate AMG's 50th anniversary. The car will get a staggering 650 hp and only 50 examples will be produced. You can only order it in red and the car will have a special set of fog lights to complete the 300SEL-look. This is going to be interesting, we can't wait to see more!
