At first glance you may see this GTR and think, “hey there’s a GTR”, a fairly stock GT-R with some Volk Racing wheels. And if you’re feeling cocky and drive an EVO, you may think I can take this guy. I mean come on, the power to weight ratio is important, and there have been many battles of Evos taking on GT-Rs (stock ones) and winning.
Until the day comes when you’re next to what seems to be a stock GT-R, but it has an “Alpha GT-R” license plate frame, sticker, and or FFech sticker. FFtech is a shop in California that is well known for installing and building out AMS GT-Rs. So what is an “Alpha GTR”? Not many people know, primarily because first you have to be able to afford the close to $100,000 monster sports car, which is usually how much GT-Rs for sale cost, and second you have to have more than $60,000 disposable for modifications. That’s a lot of money for most people.
So let me explain to those of you courageous enough to try to outrun an Alpha GT-R. This particular Alpha GT-R has the “Alpha 10” package. The “Alpha 10” package produces over 1,000hp on pump gas, and over 1,150hp on race gas. The magic behind the Alpha Performance group is that it does not sacrifice drivability or power band issues when upgrading the GT-R with this package. The Alpha team has engineered a multitude of packages for the GT-R to maintain high performance on the road and the drag strip.
The Alpha team, also known as AMS, holds the world record for producing that fastest GT-R which ran a 9.1 sec @ 163mph quarter mile. There are many Alpha packages to choose from, some pushing the 1,800 horsepower mark. As for this particular GT-R pictured it has the Alpha 10 package which is capable of pumping out 1,200+hp under the right conditions.
What this means is that for a fraction of the cost of a Bugatti an Alpha 10 GT-R will leave a million dollar car in the dust. A superbike can’t even touch an Alpha GT-R. What does it cost to bring the GT-R to Alpha 10 specs? The package roughly costs $60,000, not including labor.
So the next time you find yourself next to a stock looking GT-R, and you’re in your nicely tuned Evo or STI. Make sure to check whether the GT-R has an Alpha or FFTech sticker on it. Otherwise you may think that your throttle isn’t working as you see the rear end of the GT-R get smaller and smaller while the stop light is still in front of you.
