Home - Remarkable - 14.5 million dollar for a licence plate

14.5 million dollar for a licence plate

Special licence plates are hot these days. People pay rediculous prices on auctions for certain license plates. A businessman from Abu Dhabi has paid a massive amount of cash for his new licence plate. He offered no less than 52.2 million Dirhams, this is about 14.5 million USD.

This is a new world record. The former world record was an impressive 25.2 Dirhams, this was paid for a licence plate with number “5” on it. The 14.5 million-dollar-plate shows the number “1”. This plate has been sold during an auction in Abu Dhabi the capital of the emirate Abu Dhabi. This makes the amount of “only” 540.000 euro for the licence plate “F1”, paid by Afzal Kahn, look like nothing.

Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri, the lucky owner of the licence plate, stated he didn’t buy this plate as an investment. He would have gone even further, if he had to. He wanted to pay as much as 100 million Dirhams, which is about 30 million Dollars. When he bought the plate he didn’t have a clue on which car he would put this licence plate.

The total profit of this auction will be given to a company that provides help to victims of traffic accidents. Because of this record, the United Arab Emirates now hold the seven most expensive licence plates in the world!

Licence plate number 5 has been auctioned a while ago.
