Under the bonnet you will find a dohc in-line six cilinder with a capacity of 3670 cc that was modified in several ways, but more about that later. The factory claimed that the engine produced 318 bhp at 6000 rpm. A well maintained one will still have the original 318 bhp. When it doesn’t have them, you can still let the engine be overhauled. The engine delivers 325 Nm at 5000 rpm. The engine is controlled by a manual gearbox with four gears. This gets the Brit to a hundred in 6.4 seconds, and on to a top speed of 246 km/h. The weight of the DB4 GT Zagato is around 1269 kilogram. That’s only 19 kilos more than a Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
The DB4 GT Zagato was, and still is a very special car. In comparison to the ‘normal’ the wheel base is shortened by 12.7 centimetres. This makes the car easier to drive on the track. It also contributes to keeping the car light weight. The engine was also modified in a number of ways. For example two new 45 DCO Webers carburettors were fitted to gain a little more horsepower.
The DB4 GT Zagato is an amazing car, but above all, it’s beautiful. It’s a shame that only 75 were built. It’s also a pity that you will not find one on the open road very often anymore. Most Zagato’s are waiting in sheds until someone is going to renovate them. Too bad you can’t buy them for a few thousand euros anymore. You’ll pay at least two tones if you want a well maintained one. At least we can enjoy the photos.
