Autogespot visited Techart

Tobias Beyer, the PR manager of TechArt, will show us around the factory. Via the showroom we enter the workshop. Immediately we see that everything is clean and organised. In this area all the Porsches are totally dismantled and the wishes of the customer are built into the car (these can be most bizar, we'll get back to that later) after which the car is put back together. You can spot the fashionable colour, a matte finish ofcourse!

We’ve also seen the first 997 GT2 that was converted into the GT Street RS. A brutal car with 700 bhp and a maximum torque of 860 Nm. The customer will most likely be very pleased when he gets his new ride. A lap around the Hockenheim circuit, that is if you can drive properly, will take less then 1 minute and 6 seconds. Just one door further we enter the engine room. All the engines here are modified, or in the process of being modified. When they are finished these engines will be mounted into the car again.

The tour continues into the next room. Here the Porsche’s are dismantled. Everything is taken off of the cars. The client can choose which color of leather he prefers, and if you want, they can even hook you up with a complete minibar. Someone even had his trunk modified so that he can store some weapons in there. The car that was stripped during our tour was a Cayenne. You can clearly see the huge amount of electronics used in the cars of today. Most cars that are tuned by TechArt are Cayenne’s. Just because the Porsche option list doesn't have enough option for most Cayenne drivers. All the parts that are taken off the different cars are sorted by model. This way each car will get its own parts back when they are put back together again. You don’t want to see the steering wheel of a 997 turbo in your Cayenne, or Cayenne seats in your turbo.

The next room we visited was the carpentry. All the different parts are fitted with some new leather, exactly how the customer wants it. Some people like the strangest things, for instance a Louis Vuitton style seat. The steering wheel will also get some new stitches. this is done with utmost care and a great eye for detail.

Unfortunately, it is not allowed to take any photo’s in the next room. Here we saw the new Carrera. They were busy measuring and fitting it for a new TechArt bodykit, which is already in the market right now. As we kept walking to the technical division we met a TechArt testdriver. After a little chat we asked him if he has any extra time, and most importantly, if he has a car available! He was going to find out and would call us as soon as he knew more.

We also had a little tour around some of the offices. In the halls you can see all the prizes that TechArt has one in the past. One of these records we had heard of before… The third place during the Nardo top speed run, an impressive 358.2 kilometers per hour.

Suddenly the phone rang. A 997 Turbo GT Street Convertible is available and if we want, we can go for a spin with the TechArt testdriver. 730 bhp in a convertible is one hell of an experience. You can hear the turbo’s gaining pressure and WHAM! You’re gone...
