Photoshoot: Porsche 997 Carrera S

The Porsche 997 Carrera S, a wolf in sheep's clothing. The new generation of Porsches are sometimes seen as tame, especially by the random by-passers. "We see it so often!" That is a fact. The 997 isn't a very rare car, nevertheless it still is a lot of fun to drive, and very smooth!

This Porsche Carrera S with sport mufflers and a tiptronic automatic produces 360HP. Thanks to the sport mufflers, it has five more HP than the standard Carrera S. You can see this on the size of the pipes, the outside pipes are bigger than the inside ones. The typical Porsche with a 3.8 boxer engine sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds, more than fast enough for the (compared to other sports-cars) price-tag. I had an appointment at two o-clock at the train station of Hasselt. I had just arrived when the German slowly came driving up, the sport option was turned of, so the Porsche moved along without attracting much attention.

The trip went to Brustem, in Belgium Limburg. We were thinking of an airstrip as a location to make some pictures. On the way there the owner constantly let it go, the speed quickly went up to 270 kilometers per hour. You don't even notice that you are going so fast. While the six-cilinder was rumbling behind us we cruised along the public roads, comfortably maneuvering through the traffic.

On our way there a new Audi Q5 was driving behind us, but after two roundabouts we lost sight of him. When we arrived in Brustem we had to look for the airstrip, but we didn't have to look for long. A little sports plane flew past us. Too bad! The airstrip was closed of for a training. Now we'll have to find something else. A few meters further down the road there was an old hanger where we parked it. We opened the hood, turned the wheels and started making pictures! In the background the Carrera S was rumbling quietly, always ready to tear up the road! After a few pictures on the parking lot we looked for another entrance. Five minutes and two dead-end roads later, we found an entrance but again we saw an airplane. We parked in front of the entrance to the airstrip, also nice for some pictures.

Time to go back to Hasselt, the owner still had to go to Zonhoven and then to Antwerp, to later still come back to Hasselt. On the way home we still saw some wannabe Audis that wanted to show us something, but we didn't have to think long and soon we had passed them. Also a BMW 6-series couldn't keep up with us, even though he didn't really try, so we left him behind.

The owner dropped me of in the city to go home after that. I still want to thank the driver (who would check out this article on Autogespot!) who was willing to pick me up and take me along. See you next time and keep the Porsche going!
