Ferrari is building a 599 GTO

Ferrari is manufacturing a new toy. A hardcore version of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, most likely to be based on the 599 XX, which was introduced on this year’s Geneva car show. A lovely V12 with around 700 bhp, a limited production and of course it will cost a large sum of money. It is supposed to be a car if honor of the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO.
For a while, rumors have been going around that Ferrari is busy developing a brute version of the 599 GTB Fiorano. Now, some actual facts have come out. Although the name is not yet confirmed, the name “Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition” is used on pre-orders. Various people have made a deposit, but have no idea whatsoever what this Ferrari, probably limited to 599 or 600 pieces, will look like. They say that the 599 has been stripped and will be getting front air intakes, as we know from the older GTO’s.

Well, some specs then. The weight will most likely be decreased by 100 to 150 kilos. This will bring the total weight to about 1450 kilos. With a V12, which will be producing between 680 and 700 bhp, this is going to be one hell of a machine. The exterior is going to be much more aggressive and will contain lots of carbon-fiber. The price of this 599 GTO will be 20 to 25 percent higher than the standard 599.

Besides that, rumors on introduction-, production- and delivery-dates have been going around. The pre-orders are collected as we speak. In January, dealers and buyers will get a one-to-one introduction in Maranello, after which the 599 GTO will be officially introduced to the public in March 2010 in Geneva. By summer, the first copies will be produced and around October or November 2010, the first ones will be shining on customers’ driveways.

We are terribly curious about this supercar, which probably will be rivaling the Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV.
