Two years ago, in 2006, the English brand Brooke introduced the Double R. This is a lightweight sports car which you can still buy today. The model can be delivered with 200, 260 or 300 bhp. Now, two years later, Brooke is introducing a supercharged version of the Double R.
Most people haven’t heard of Brooke before. This isn’t really a surprise because this brand hasn’t been in the news a lot. Brooke is a small company that builds lightweight sports cars. It can be compared with other small car companies like Catherham and Ariel.
The cheapest model of the Double R will reach the 100 km/h in just under 4 seconds. The new supercharged model will probably be faster. This version of the Brooke R will weigh about 500 kilo. The 200 bhp from the original Double R is fairly quick, but when you’ve got a two litre 320 bhp strong Cosworth engine behind your back you could be in for some serious action. If you can change gears fast enough, you can reach 100 km/h from a full stop in less than three seconds. The power to weight ratio with 580 bhp per ton is also very impressive. The top speed of this supercharged Brooke is 264 km/h, so you could say it’s a pretty fast car. The Cosworth engine is specially built for this car and uses technology from Ford’s Duratec engines. For this new version of the Double R Brooke has redeveloped the lightweight frame.
Brooke Cars has more interesting news for fans of lightweight sports cars. Brooke is planning to introduce two new versions with better handling this year. This is accomplished by lowering the centre of gravity, the seating position of the driver.
The supercharged version of the Double R will probably cost around the £40.000, in Holland this will be around €55.000 and you have to add the usual taxes. The price of the cheapest version is lowered to £23.000, approximately €31.000. This way Brooke can compete more with the lightweight sports cars of Catherham.
