Porsche 997 GT3 RS drifting fun

If you are thinking about drifting your rear wheel drive car around corners you should master some techniques. You could start trying to slide around roundabouts on the public road. The police however won’t like you for doing this. Another (better) option is to take a course at the drifting school, called Drift & Dwars, by Paul and Mark Maaskant, situated in Lelystad, Netherlands. It’s possible to bring your own car, or rent a BMW 325i at the spot, specially prepared for drifting. We recommend a course like this to every rear wheel drive car owner. What’s nicer than impressing your friends by drifting your car? Just imagine, you’re able to drive a Porsche 911 GT3 RS for a day. When cruising around you find the perfect corner, a corner that just invites you to slide through it. The only problem is a huge amount of snow or ice on the road, what will you do?

Motive Magazine should be able to answer this question. They have made the perfect “manual” to start drifting your street legal race car from Stuttgart, Scandinavian style!

The most important thing to remember is that you're driving on ice. So don’t start racing, a speed of 50 or 60 km/h is fast enough. You see the right-hand corner coming, already you know you're not going through it in a straight line.

Make sure you approach the bend in a straight line. The left side of the car has to be clear of any objects, you don’t want to damage the rear of the car when sliding through the corner. If you’re pretty close to the corner steer a little bit to the left, to make sure that the weight of the car is placed a little to the back, this makes it easier for the rear to start sliding. Steer immediately to the right, the rear will start sliding. The key to perfection is to look straight on. Carefully step on the throttle, to make sure that the back will overtake you a bit more. When you’ve started to slide, make sure you steer to the left again to keep the Porsche drifting through the entire corner. Also play with the throttle so the rear wheel drive will provide you with enough power to push you through the corner. While you’re drifting, pick an exit point, a spot where you want to end the corner. Looking ahead is the solution. Don’t step on the power to much because the rear wheels will lose their grip. When approaching the end of the corner try to get the Porsche back in a straight line.

It takes a lot of practice, but if it all works, you’ll become the ice king of drifting. Want to learn more? Visit this website and make sure you know everything there is to know about ice drifting.
