The second day in New York is all about getting used to the time difference. Some members of our team were out of bed at 5 am already, just because their biological clock isn’t used to the time difference in New York. So we all stood up early, went into the city and talked through the latest plans. It will all start Thursday morning. Stickering the car and registering the participants. These are just a few things of what we have to do on Thursday.
We can’t do anything without a car and luckily we got it delivered in New York today. We will pick it up Thursday morning and bring it to the sticker artists of Gumball. Not very much happened today but the first Gumballers are checking in at the hotel. We are getting excited but the peak will be arrived on Friday, when the rally finally starts.
As not everyone will be familiar with the Gumball we will look back at the history of this rally. It all started in 1999 when Maximillian Cooper invited 50 of his best friens for a 3000 mile long journey through Europe. They started in London and they also finished there. They also stopped at Monaco, Rimini and several other places to party the night and get back in the cars the other day. With this first rally the Gumball 3000 began. The rally grew bigger every year. In 1999, Dannii Minogue and Kate Moss participated. In 2001 the boys of Jackass drove the rally and in the following years other big names like David Hasselhof and Xzibit were added to the list of famous participants. The rally choose America instead of Europe for the first time in 2002. Just like this year they drove from the East Coast to the West Coast and they finished at the Playboy mansion. A depth was reached in 2007 when a deadly accident took place during the rally which was caused by one of the participants. This led to some prohibitions for the rally in some European countries.
The rally build up a big name in all these years and the brand has a big value according to Forbes. Nowadays it’s not only the rally where they gather money with. The merchandise of Gumball 3000 is very popular and in the meantime this became a real clothing brand. You want to keep posted on our latest developments during the rally?
