Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR attracts a lot of attention in Arona

A lot of beautiful classics come from Italy, but Germany also made a few beautiful classics. A great example is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, but this car also had a more extreme brother. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR is really rare, especially in this city. Let's hope this is an original copy, but it sure looks like it is!

The 300 SLR is the race version of the 300 SL and was available in an open and closed version. Of course we don't need to mention which version this is, but we do want to tell you something about the history of this car. Stirling Moss won the Mille Miglia in the open version in 1955. He won the race with an average speed of 157 kph and that's just insane! Try this on the German Autobahn with a modern car and you will soon find out how hard this is. But not all history about this car is positive. This model is also responsible for 28 deaths during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955.

Only a few cars have this much history and this model reincarnated a few years ago. The SLR McLaren Stirling Moss has a lot of styling characteristics from this historic model, including the air intake on the hood. The 300 SLR from 1955 was just as fast as it was beautiful and that's probably why this car gets so much attention!
