Ready and spotted after fifty years: Paulussen Beradino

Something that started as an individual project to build something like the Lamborghini Miura or Ferrari 250 GTO was finally ready after fifty years. It look another three years before this car was spotted for the first time. It all took very long but this timeless beauty is a car with a long story. Despite the beautiful fluent and Italian look, this car is designed by a German. It's just one of the many remarkable details about this unique car.

There ar a lot of people that spent years on the restoration of a classic, but building your own car is something that doesn't happen that often. The technology is too diverse and it just costs a lot of money. In 1961, it wasn't like that and that's why Johannes P. Paulussen decided to build his own supercar. He didn't like the Ford GT40, Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari 250 GTO. He just had one dream, his own supercar!

The engine is installed in the back, like it should with a real sports car. The choice isn't made for a big engine from an Italian manufacturer, the car is powered by a two liter flat six from Porsche. The chassis of the car isn't completely hand built but is made out of components from Porche and a Beetle, although it needed an extra subframe for the engine. That wasn't a problem for the very handy Paulussen.

Eventually the car was ready in 1974 and it took already 7000 hours to build the car. The car was shown on a show in Aachen, Germany. The car was approved by TUV and got the name Paulussen Beradino. Paulussen decided to drive the car until 14.000 kilometers there was an oil leak. The car was parked in a garage in 1990 and wouldn't leave this garage until 2009, when Paulussen retired. He got back to his work on the car which cost him another 3000 hours. But it also resulted in a price, he won the price of best car in the prototype class on the Castle Classic Days 2011 Concours d'Elegance. He is currently still working on the car and that's why he names the car 'the living project'.
