Car manufacturer Porsche keeps on growing every year and they produce almost 200.000 cars a year. An important model for this growth is the Macan. Porsche doesn't only want to build SUVs, they also want to build sports cars. In three years they will come up with a new supercar which is developed with the codename 988.
AutoCar says to have more information that Porsche wants to compete with Ferrar with their 988. With the current 911 which is powered by a six-cylinder engine, Porsche stays two cylinders behind the Ferrari's V8 supercar. Porsche is testing a compact V8 engine with two turbos. The power of this engine should be around 600 hp. The exterior will be a mix between the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Cayman.
It's not sure whether Porsche will really come upw ith this car. Porsche is talking about an exclusive supercar between the 918 Spyder and 911 for years. The success of all Porsches models doesn't make it necessary to come up with an extra model. Porsche is aiming to make the brand more accessible by increasing the production. They're working on more compact engines and the first step is a four-cylinder turbo engine for the Cayman and Boxster.
