Renault Sport introduces a spectacular concept car to honor its 40th anniversary and its return to Formula 1: the Renault Clio R.S.16. It's the fastest and most powerful Clio R.S. ever built with the technolgoy from the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R. Renault F1 driver Kevin Magnussen unveiled the Clio R.S.16 before the start of the legendary Monaco Grand Prix on Friday 27 May.
The idea for the development of an even faster Clio R.S. came in October 2015. Renaul Sport knows that the chassis of the Clio R.S. can handle a power up to 300 hp due to experience in rally driving. After this they found out that the 275 hp and 360 Nm strong 2.0 turbo engine from the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R fits in the Clio R.S. The goal of this project: building the most powerfl Renault Sport car ever. The concept model also shows us a new way of cooperating between Renault Sport Cars teams with the focus on production ready cars and th Renault Sport Racing teams.
The concept model Clio R.S.16 has the braking system and the dampers of the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R. The rear-whel suspension comes from the Clio R3T: the rally version of the Clio R.S.
