The new 911 GT3 R: race car especially for customer teams

Porsche developed a new race car for their customer teams based on the 911 GT3 RS: the GT3 R which can be used in GT3 races. During the development of the 500 hp strong racing model Porsche paid a lot of attention to weight reduction, optimizing the aerodynamics and reducing the fuel use.

The comparison between the new 911 GT3 R and the 911 GT3 RS are clear: both models have the characterizing 'double-bubble roof'. Compared with its predecessor the 911 GT3 R has a longer wheel base with an extra 8.3 centimeters. This improves the weight ratio and results in a more predictable handling, especially in fast corners.

The water-cooled naturally aspirated 4.0 liter six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 GT3 R is closely related to the 911 GT3 RS. The direct injection works with a pressure up to 200 bar and the variable valve timing makes the engine more efficient and consume less fuel. The aerodynamic improvements are also related to the street legal version, take the air intakes on the front fenders for example. These air intakes create more downforce on the front axle. The big wing on the back of the car is two meters wide and has depth of 40 centimeters.
