A 288 GTO shows up in Portofino

In Portofino, a town just south of Genoa, this beautiful Ferrari 288 GTO recently made an appearance. This particular specimen made its debut on the scene for the very first time.

When a Ferrari bears the name GTO, it's a statement! From the legendary 250 GTO to the 288 GTO and all the way to the 599 GTO, they have all been immensely popular and extremely appreciating in value.
The name "288 GTO" stands for "Gran Turismo Omologato," which in Italian translates to "Grand Touring, homologated." This name reflects the fact that the 288 GTO was designed and built as a racing car.
The 288 GTO was manufactured from 1984 to 1985. It's an extremely rare and limited series from Ferrari.
The heart of the 288 GTO is its 2.9-liter V8 engine. This engine was equipped with two turbochargers and delivered an impressive 400 horsepower. This made the 288 GTO the fastest and most powerful road-going Ferrari of its time.
Thanks to its powerful engine, the 288 GTO could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just about 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of around 305 km/h.
The design of the 288 GTO was both aerodynamic and functional. It featured a distinctive grille opening and flared fenders that set it apart from other Ferraris of its era.
To reduce the vehicle's weight and enhance its performance, a lot of aluminum and fiberglass were used in the 288 GTO. As a result, the car weighed only about 1,160 kilograms. The 288 GTO laid the foundation for the development of the legendary Ferrari F40, which became even more powerful and iconic.
