A historic first: Pagani Utopia registered in the Netherlands

What a find from Fijnaart, Netherlands, the very first Pagani Utopia has officially been registered on Dutch plates. That alone makes this a historic moment for the Dutch car scene, but this particular Utopia already has a bit of a backstory.

Back in October of last year, the same Utopia was spotted in Aljezur, Portugal, at the time still without license plates. It wasn’t alone either, it showed up alongside a Ferrari 488 Pista and a Koenigsegg Jesko Attack, making for a truly once-in-a-lifetime sighting. Fast forward to today, and the car has changed hands, now belonging to Dutch collector Gerard van der Horst who’s no stranger to exotic machinery. His garage already houses some seriously special cars, including a white Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, a blue Sián FKP 37, and even the track-only Essenza SCV12, among others.

And here’s a fun coincidence: back in October 2024, Gerard’s Countach LPI 800-4 was parked in the exact same spot in Fijnaart where this Utopia was seen. Clearly, that parking space is becoming something of a hotspot for rare Italian hypercars.

This Utopia’s arrival also marks an important chapter in the history of Pagani in the Netherlands. Over the years, a few examples have surfaced here and there, but almost none have ever worn the iconic yellow Dutch plates. Until now.

Strictly speaking, this Utopia isn’t the first Pagani to get them. Years ago, a Zonda was briefly registered on Dutch plates, but it was quickly exported and vanished from the scene. Aside from that, most Paganis in the Netherlands have either remained in private collections or been seen on dealer plates.

Take for example the blue Pagani Zonda C12-S, which resurfaced two years ago in a private Dutch collection. Before that, the same car was spotted back in 2016 alongside a red LaFerrari. Sadly, it doesn’t look like this Zonda will see much road time, as it’s been tucked away quietly in storage.

Then there was the red Huayra seen in 2015 on green dealer plates blasting down the highway in Wezep. And if we go back even further, the very first Pagani ever spotted in the Netherlands was a silver Zonda C12-S in 2009. That car had quite the journey, first photographed on the highway in Bilthoven, then bizarrely parked inside an indoor swimming pool next to a black Ferrari Challenge Stradale, and later seen driving through Rotterdam before disappearing entirely.

All of this makes today’s Utopia sighting especially significant. For the first time in history, a Pagani Utopia is wearing Dutch plates, and with a prominent collector behind the wheel, there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing more of it on the road. Given how rare Paganis are on Dutch soil, this is without a doubt a moment for the history books.
