No, this isn’t Le Mans. This was a random Monday night in Zurich, but it sure didn’t look like it. Recently, the city’s Europabrücke was completely shut down for something no one in Switzerland could’ve ever imagined: a full-on video shoot featuring a Porsche 917K, the legendary endurance racer that defined an era.
For about 45 minutes, the police closed the bridge to give this yellow 917K, proudly wearing the red “Kremer” lettering on its flanks, the entire stage. And if that name sounds familiar, it should, Erwin and Manfred Kremer, the brothers behind Kremer Racing, founded their team in 1962 in Cologne. Over the years, Kremer Racing became synonymous with Porsche excellence, famously winning the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Porsche 935 K3, and absolutely dominating the German Racing Championship with ten victories out of eleven races that same season.
Back in Zurich, though, this was no endurance race, but the 917K still made sure to leave its mark. As the 917K roared up and down the Europabrücke, it even triggered one of the city’s fixed speed cameras. Yes, the radar actually went off, probably the only time anyone’s ever been happy to see a flash in their rearview mirror.
Now the big question remains: will the police ever release that shot? Because if they do, it might just go down as the greatest radar photo ever taken in Switzerland, a piece of pure automotive madness captured in the most unlikely setting.
