Aging goals: Ferrari 288 GTO

There's not many cars that age well, and even less cars that almost look better with age. The Ferrari 288 GTO however is one of those cars. Spotter Style captured one in France. A very unique spot since only about 300 units were ever produced.

Do you remember the time of the notorious Group B-rallycars? The 288 Gran Turismo Omologato was developed especially for that group. To be able to participate at least 200 units had to be produced. These units are the normal street legal versions, like we see in the Audi Sport Quattro or Ford RS2000. But why do we never see a 288 GTO appear in the Group B videos?

It's important to know that Group B cars sometimes produce more than 600hp, which was actually too much. The suspension and brakes were not developed for that kind of power. Of course everyone wanted to see the spectacle which made the sides of the roads filled with spectators. People wanted to get as close as possible to the cars and it even became a challenge to touch the cars racing by. Almost every rally came with a deadly accident. If it wasn't a driver it would be a spectator. It was decided in 1986 to pull the plug on the Group B and although the 288 GTO was already in development, it arrived just a little too late to the part...
