Akrapovič and the cooperation with Koenigsegg

The Koenigsegg Regera was the the highlight of this year's Geneva Motor Show. The Swedish hypercar is filled with novelties including an exhaust system that's been developed in cooperation with Akrapovič. Never before such an exhaust is made for a production model.

The Regera is the fastest production built supercar ever. Koenigsegg says that the Regera needs less than twenty seconds to reach 400 kph. Never before, an electric engine and combustion engine worked together like they do in the Regera. Koenigsegg wants everything about the Regera to be special. That's why Akrapovič was chosen as partner in the development of the exhaust. A new design in the shape of a fish tail.

Why this design? This has a few reasons. The exhaust trajectory of the engine is shorter thanks to this exhaust and the exhaust improves the aerodynamics of the car. Next to that, the exhaust is more lightweight due to a combination of titanium and Inconel. The design looks very chic. Strange thing about the Regera is the absence of gears. The problem is that the V8 only uses it maximum rpm at the car's top speed. Koenigsegg had to come up with a new method to create a sporty sound during the entire acceleration of the car. The sound now needs to go through a titanium 'wall' and this creates an amazing sound. At 4.000 rpm, the V8 sounds like it's doing 8.000 rpm. The exhaust-like shape in the center is an outlet for hot air. The exhaust are the two slots. It's waiting for the first movie where we can hear the sound of the Regera. We're really looking forward to this moment!
