Bugatti EB110 GT GT1 is pure Le Mans Nostalgia

It is 1994, three years after the introduction of the EB110 as a Bugatti owner confirmed participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the EB110 GT GT1. A unique project unleashed on the Circuit de la Sarthe.

French media magnate Michel Hommell entered his modified EB110 GT for the 1994 event and did so with great success. During the 1994 Le Mans test, the EB110 was driven by Eric Helary and Jean-Pierre Malcher. They set the fifth fastest time overall and should have been fastest in the GT1 class. Until a Dauer 962 LM Sport from Porsche showed up and it pulverized the time and was more than 20 seconds faster! That did not stop the French and continued with their heads held high. Unfortunately, just before the race a leak was discovered in the fuel tank which had to be glued. The glue then had to dry, so it was only possible to drive with half-full tanks. Unfortunately there were more problems later in the race due to failing turbos. All four had to be replaced and then the EB110 GT could be on the road again. However, a blowout on Mulsanne Straight was the final blow after 230 laps. Fortunately, the car has been repaired and was spotted in good condition again in 2019!
