Kugelbomben are highly dangerous explosive devices, not intended for public use. As their name suggests, they are spherical projectiles, often weighing several kilograms. Designed for professional large-scale fireworks displays, they are strictly regulated in Germany. To purchase them legally, one must be a certified professional pyrotechnician, at least 21 years old, and have the proper permits. Additionally, these explosives must be stored in approved facilities, as keeping them in residential areas poses significant risks.

While the destruction of personal property is disheartening - especially when an item holds sentimental value - it pales in comparison to the loss of human life. This tragedy underscores the escalating challenges Berlin has faced in recent years. Once known for its relative calm, the city has seen a concerning rise in incidents like these.

Ultimately, objects can be replaced, but the loss of a life is irreparable. This New Year’s Eve serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by illegal fireworks and the need for stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
