Spot of the day: Ferrari 250 GTL

We all like classic Italians. Especially the Ferrari’s from the 250-series have eternal beauty. These exclusive vehicles were made in all sorts of versions, for example the GTO (Dutch article), that we showed you not so long ago.

The 250 GT Lusso was revealed at the Paris motor show in 1962. These lines are typical for a real GT. It has a real sporty and elegant line. Sporty it sure is. When the 250 SWB needed to be replaced Pininfarina drew this beautiful design and the GT Lusso became a street going version of the very sporty 250 GT Short wheel base. Despite the fact the car was more GT oriented it was often used for racing. Many owners mounted a roll cage that made the car race-ready. This model shares parts with the 250 GTO, like the brake discs, engine and the chassis. Under the bonnet we find a 3 litre V12 with 250bhp. In his hay day the car had phenomenal performance. 0-100 km/h in 8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Only 350 250 GT Lusso’s were ever made. One of these was owned by the famous racing driver Steve McQueen. This car was auctioned in 2007 for a staggering price of $ 2.31 million.
