Spot of the day: Lamborghini LM002

The previous time we could welcome a Lamborghini LM002 to Autogespot dates back to December 2008. It is a car that is rarely spotted. It seems that even in the Netherlands nine LM002 are registered, but these cars are almost never spotted. So when we see one on Autogespot it is a reason for a small party. Today we celebrate it with this special Lamborghini as the spot of the day!

In the Belgium city Hasselt (Dutch article) this super-SUV was spotted. This was the first propper all terrain vehicle, the very first of the modern SUV’s. Lamborghini only built 328 of these cars (some sources talk about different figures). That makes this car much more exclusive than, for example a Mercedes ML63 AMG or a Porsche Cayenne Turbo!

When this car was introduced in 1986 the V12, which also powered the Countach, produced a massive 450 bhp. This was almost unbelievable back then. The figures produced by this beast where superb. The sprint to 100 km/h was over in about 7.5 seconds. The topspeed of 210 km/h is absolutely amazing for a creature like this. This SUV by Lamborghini is a massive car, robust and though, if you see this car appear in your rear view mirror, you want to go asside as fast as you can!

This car was designed to be used in the army as a mule and combat vehicle. Unfortunately the car lost the battle against the Hummer H1. But fortunately Lamborghini decided to produce this car, mainly for enthusiast from the Middle East. Nowadays most LM002’s are in exclusive collections, some of them will never see the road, or dirt, for what they where built, quite a shame.

In 2005 the rumor was spread in the automobile industry that this year a successor for the LM002 will be introduced, we don’t think that this will happen. We can only hope that Lamborghini will start to produce the wonderfull Estoque (Dutch article).

Unfortunately this spot is deleted from Autogespot, because the spot was double, the car was uploaded before, by an other spotter in the same city. To bad, we hope that spotters will check even better if a spot is double or not before they upload their spot.
