Spot of the day: Ferrari 288 GTO

Just seven of these cars have made it onto Autogespot. This supercar is compared to its successors, the F40, F50 and Enzo Ferrari really rare. Produced in the years 1984 and 1985 the Ferrari 288 GTO is a car that with 277 cars ever built is a rare appearance. A supercar that introduced the era of nowadays Ferrari sportscars.

It wasn’t that hard to decide that this has to be the spot of the day. Back in the eighties Ferrari had to built at least 200 cars to be able to enter the FIA Championships. A story that counts for quite a lot of sportscars. The 288 GTO is based on the 308 GTB, but the 288 got the most modern features that was known at that time. Some details were changed to make this the fastest Ferrari they had ever built.

This 288 Grand Tourismo Omologato has a massive 400bhp strong engine, due to two superchargers. Even nowadays the performance of this car is special. It should be able to meet up with a Ferrari F430 and a Porsche 996 Turbo. The weight of 1,100 kg makes the car corner well. It isn’t really a car that should be driven on the highway a small mountain road would fit the car much better. At least the car can be found on the road and not in a collection where it only collects dust. Zeven down, 270 to go!
