Geneva 2013: Bentley Flying Spur

The Bentley Continental GT and Continental Flying Spur from the last Continental Series look almost the same. On the front as well as the back of the model. The Flying Spur wasn’t very distinguishing but this changes with the new generation. In Geneva we see the new Flying Spur, without the addition Continental. It’s the new luxurious as well as sporty limousine which is brought to a higher level.

The Flying Spur is 5.3 meters long and full of luxury and a lot of power. Rumors were spread saying that the limousine wouldn’t be powered by the famous W12 but luckily the car is still powered by this engine. The engine in the front produces 626 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The car weighs less than before thanks to the use of aluminum which results in a power/kilogram ratio which is increased with fourteen percent. This results in very sporty performance which are brought to a higher level thanks to the eight-speed gearbox. You’ll reach 100 kph in just 4.3 seconds end you’ll reach 160 kph in 9.5 seconds. The acceleration won’t stop until you reach 322 kph. This makes it the fastest four door limousine ever made by Bentley.

When we take a look at the exterior we see only a few similarities with the Continental GT. That’s a good thing because the models are now quite distinctive. The front of the car is new, sharp lines and LED lighting characterize the front and back of the car. A very important detail is the lower part of the new front bumper. This gives the Flying Spur a wider profile and it looks tougher and dynamic. The back is, with a nice line at the C-style, elegant and it makes us think of Bentley’s like the Mulsanne and Turbo R from the eighties and nineties.

In the interior, you can find 600 new components compared with the previous generation. Beuatiful options are the Bentley Connectivity Unit for wireless internet and the audio system of Naim with up to 1100 Watt. Every passenger is spoiled with luxurious materials and a lot of comfort, but that’s normal with a Bentley!
