Geneva 2016: Carrozzeria Touring Disco Volante

The Alfa Romeo Disco Volante always was quite a special car. The car is designed by Carrozzeria Touring, a company that’s been found in 1926 and is specialized in coachbuilding. For the Disco Volante they used the 8C Competizione as a basis and turned it into something special. Alfa Romeo also produced the 8C Spider and guess what, this car can now be found in Geneva.

The 8C Spider also got a treatment by Carrozzeria Touring. Why not? The Disco Volante is quite controversial amongst car fanatics. Some love it while others hate the fact that a limited sports car is used for such a creation.

Because the donor car is already limited it won’t surprise you that the Disco Volante Spyder is very limited. Only seven copies will be built. It can’t get much more exclusive. Next to that, the car can be completely composed to the owner’s wishes so there’s a really small chance that you will find an identical copy of this car.

The design of the Disco Volante Spyder is inspired by the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante concept car from 1952 and that’s why Touring also used this name. Disco Volante means ‘Flying Disc’ and we can imagine why they used this name while looking at the design. The car seems to come straight from the set of a random science fiction movie. The drive train of the car is less science-fiction. The Disco Volante Spyder is powered by the engine from the 8C, a 4.7 liter V8 producing 450 hp. Unfortunately the Disco Volante Spyder isn’t a powerful hypercar..
