In the world of spotting you have all sorts of cars you can spot. You can split them in a few categories including luxurious limousines, sports cars and exotics. Really special are supercars of which only a few copies are made. The following spot belongs in this category of homologation-supercars. Think of the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR AMG or the following Porsche 996 GT1. This Porsche is a historical topspot which will compete for todays Spot of the day title. What an amazing spot!

Only four unique copies are uploaded on Autogespot. Only one of those copies is seen outdoors every now and then and this copy is spotted regularly. Most of the other Porsche will almost never come outside, probably because of the hard handling and the value of the car. Do you want to spot a GT1? Then you have to visit the South of France because that’s where you will have a chance to see this. In this area, you can find the most extreme supercars ever build.

Porsche developed a racecar for the GT1 class, back in 1996. It was required to build 25 street legal copies for the homologation in this class. The Germans did this and they produced 25 GT1’s which had a price of 1.500.000 German Marks. Nowadays you still have to pay a high price to buy one of the 25 copies. In 2011, 1.000.000 Euros has to be paid for a copy of this car. What do you get for this money? As you can see it is a supercar with the bodywork of a racecar. The small six-cylinder boxer engine produces 690 bhp thanks to its turbos. Because of the European regulation, most of the copies are downgraded to 544 bhp. You can easily reach 300 km/h and the sprint to 100 km/h will take less than four seconds. Unfortunately, most of the owners don’t use the car this way, they are now used to show off on the boulevard.
