The name Speedster is on many lips. Some car brands also use the name. However, did you know that the name was invented with the 356 Speedster?
Porsche has now built five Speedster versions. A sixth was made as a one-off. These included vehicles such as the 356 Speedster, the 930 Speedster, the 964 Speedster, the 997 Speedster, and last but not least, the 991 Speedster. Only a single example of the 993 was built.
The purpose behind the Speedster vehicles was, of course, to build a faster and, more importantly, a lighter version of the 911. Most often, the top model was taken as the basis. After the 356 Speedster, which dates back to the 1950s, the 930 Speedster was the first model to have the typical Speedster design. Typical of it was its slightly narrower windshield and, of course, its Speedster rear with two humps. After this Speedster, all others were built according to this scheme. The 930 Speedster was built between 1974 and 1989. Exactly 356 units were produced. Today, one has to lay down a whopping $200,000 to acquire this vehicle. They are also becoming increasingly rare. Here we see an example in Cascais, Portugal, which was spotted in the same town seven years ago.
