Once again, Mercedes has presented a special vehicle, and they did it at none other than in Monaco. A lot is happening in Monaco at the moment, but of course, you know that well. The Monegasque Formula 1 Grand Prix is taking place right now. And Mercedes chose this event to unveil a new Mercedes that will certainly be driving around Monaco later with a 200% guarantee.
Here, we want to take a look at the newly unveiled Mercedes Pure Speed AMG, which was presented a few days ago. Indeed, it is supposed to be a mix of the AMG ONE and the SL AMG. And you can actually see both vehicles. The most striking detail of this car is unmistakable. Instead of a windshield, there is a gigantic HALO (this bar over the passengers). It is not particularly beautiful. However, with this HALO system, Mercedes can save a lot of bureaucracy with the authorities. You can also see the characteristics of both the SL and the AMG ONE at the front.
In fact, a total of 250 units of this open vehicle are supposed to be produced. Naturally, only the best and most dedicated Mercedes-Benz customers will have access to purchase it.
The HALO system is, of course, doubly beneficial. On the one hand, as mentioned earlier, Mercedes can save a lot of paperwork trouble by installing such an obvious safety system, and on the other hand, they can use it for perfect advertising. Since 2018, every Formula 1 car has such a system. Mercedes can then advertise that this car has direct Formula 1 technology installed. That is a great selling point. Even if customers will buy the vehicle anyway...
We all still remember the last open Mercedes very well, the SLR Stirling Moss. This Pure Speed is, of course, much more compact than the SLR. Nevertheless, it is also a homage to the old 300 SLR, which was also open. The AMG ONE look at the front is also meant to remind us of this extreme vehicle. The striking paintwork – a color gradient from Le Mans Red to Graphite Grey with black AMG patterns – refers to the color scheme of the Mercedes winning car at the Targa Florio 1924 in Sicily. Of course, you can also order the car in other colors. Also noticeable are the multifaceted rims, which could almost look like they are from a tuner. However, only a few characteristics remain similar to the AMG ONE. Technically, it is a pure SL 63. Now we are curious how long it will take until drivable Pure Speeds can be seen on the road. Let's hope it doesn't take as long as the AMG ONE...
