When Porsche introduced the Cayenne in 2002, no one could have predicted that 15 years later, in 2017, Lamborghini would unveil its first SUV, the Urus. Technically, it's not their first off-road vehicle, as the LM002 was launched in 1986. However, the LM wasn't what we consider an SUV today; it was more of a traditional off-roader with superior off-road capabilities and limited on-road performance. The Lamborghini Urus is a blend of components from the VAG group, united under the iconic bull logo to create one of the most passionate and radical SUVs on the market. The Urus utilizes the Volkswagen Group's MLB platform, developed by Audi and introduced in 2007 with the Audi A5. Subsequently, this platform has been used in the Porsche Cayenne and Macan, the Volkswagen Touareg and Phideon, the Bentley Bentayga, and the Audi A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q8. Not only does the Urus share its platform with other models in the group, but it also shares other components such as the V8 engine, jointly developed by Audi and Volkswagen since the 1980s, and used in the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga V8, and Audi RS6 and RS7, among others. Since its launch, the Urus has become Lamborghini's best-selling model, with annual sales exceeding 5,000 units (except for 2020 due to obvious reasons). In this case, we're looking at the first version of the Urus equipped with the VAG group's V8 engine, producing 650 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque that makes the car a dream come true for petrolheads who crave a Lamborghini but also need to take their kids to school. Subsequently, the Urus S, Performante, and SE would arrive with even more power and performance.
