There is no manufacturer of exclusive cars who’s got no ambition. New rich countries are coming up and things are going well for Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls-Royce and so on. Maserati also is one of those companies, and due that Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has got big plans. Their objective is to reach 60.000 cars a year at the end of this decade. How they are going to archieve that?
Last year the production number stopped at ‘just’ 6159 copies. There are three models which will be responsible for higher selling numbers. The new Quattoporte is going to be bigger, which makes him a concurrent for the Audi A8 and the BMW 7 series. The model will be shown at next years Detroit motor show in January. A 4.7 liter V8 from Ferrari will deliver around 475 bhp. Maserati wants to reach 12.000 copies per year sold.
Two or three months later Maserati will anounce another new model, in Geneva or Shanghai. It’s about a concurrent for the Audi A6 and the BMW 5 Series. This car is the Quattroporte’s small brother. A V6 with more than 400 bhp and rear wheel drive are the only details we know. Further it will be the first Maserati which will be sold with a diesel engine. With a price from 42.000 to 56.000 pounds Maserati expects to sell 20.000 to 25.000 copies a year.
Then there is a conceptcar bespoken much: the Kubang. Maserati still has to introduce this SUV, but we don’t exact details. We expect the same V8 in the Quattroporte and the diesel engine as in the A6-concurrent. When we can expect the SUV to be introduced, we can’t say.
Further there is the successor of the GranTurismo. In Paris, the end of this month we will know more. A conceptcar will give us an impression about the future design of Maserati.
