Nissan and the Middle East market

As the Middle East grows increasingly attractive to car manufacturers and distributors, car giant Nissan is pushing out two more models into this competitive market: the Altima Sedan and the Sentra. This brings to a total of eight the models that Nissan offers for sale in the region, with the others being the Sunny, Micra, TIIDA, GT-R, 370Z and Maxima.

The new Altima Sedan is an updated version which is substantially different to its predecessor, being longer, lighter, wider and more aerodynamic. It’s available in five versions: three with a 2.5 litre capacity and two with a 3.5 liter capacity. These new models promise both increased fuel capacity and overall improved performance. Nissan believe that great things lie ahead for the Altima and that the car will alter the general perception of what a mid-range sedan is capable of.

The Sentra marks a new direction for Nissan in the Middle East. Having established a reputation with the model in other territories, the company is hoping that the Sentra will not just hold its own, but gain the upper hand too, against the market leaders in this competitive segment. Offer in a choice of seven colors from selected Nissan dealerships, the Sentra comes with a choice of two engine capacities: a 1.6 liter and a 1.8 liter. The car looks like an Altima, albeit on a smaller scale, and incorporates design features such as telescopic steering, a UBS-ready audio system and Bluetooth. Optional extras, including trims and leather seats, are available.

Big guns in the Middle Eastern market such as Toyota will have to look over their shoulders, as Nissan guns for this market even harder. With two more entering the market, the company is getting serious. But then again, hasn’t it always?
