North American International Auto Show 2017

Today is the last day of the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, better known as the North American International Auto Show. Last year the show had 61 new car introductions, but this year the show was somewhat limited and had a complete different setup. That didn't make the show less exciting, but for those people looking for an exotic or luxury car found that there were limited options.

The NAIAS has been the main show for North America, and that is because the Big Three, GM, Ford and FCA were all headquartered right here in Detroit. But this year show faced some real challenges. The show started right at the tail end of the CES, Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This event has become a popular platform for the automotive industry to showcase their technological advancements, and that includes the display of new prototypes. At the same time we see the makers of exotic sports cars select events like the Monterey Car Week to introduce new models because they will meet the typical buyers of their cars. It resulted in the absence of Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bugatti, Maserati and even Porsche. So it was up to the Big Three from Detroit to impress the audience, supported by the Big Three from Germany (Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi) and Japan (Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infinity and Honda/Acura). And they didn’t disappoint, with the highlights being the debut of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe and the 2018 BMW 5-series (but not the M). Here is a glimpse of the cars on display.
