Out of nothing: SLR McLaren in Kazakhstan

Of course there are places where you´re almost sure to spot a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren but in the middle of Asia this will get a lot harder. Spotter sol7777 suddenly found this SLR McLaren between his old photos. It is not only much faster than all other cars around it, also the price is from a completely different class.

This supersonic toy costed a shameless 350.000 pounds in the UK. Of course the second-hand copies can be bought for much less, but this proves how desireable this car was some years ago. In 2003, this car was introduced with its incredible power and looks. At that time, only the fastest supercars could accelerate to 62 mph in less than four seconds, and this was one of them. Under the long bonnet McLaren placed a 5.5 liter V8 with a top speed over 205 mph as result. Jeremy Clarkson compared the sound of the car with the one from the Messerschmitt, thundering and frightful.

To hear this sound on its best you have to stand at the side of the car, where the exhausts are placed. Maybe this is the most recognizable detail of the car, they are only there to optimalize the aerodynamics. Those who have seen the down side of the SLR know it is completely closed. This also because of more downforce for more stability, something this car can use. This car has got a bit of an American character, the cornering was never as good as the performance in a straight line. However, on the bumpy roads of central Asia it must be real challenge to use the full proportion of the car!
