Paris 2012: the charged Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive

Around two years ago the concept version of the SLS AMG E-Cell was introduced. We’ve waited for long but luckily it wasn’t for nothing. A production version of the SLS AMG E-Cell. It only isn’t called E-Cell anymore, but SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive. An extremely long name, but it’s a real electric supercar!

Four electric engines, one for each Wheel, produce a total power of 750 bhp and 1000 Nm of torque! The engines are mounted just behind the wheels and are working thanks to fluid-cooled lithium-ion batteries. The Electric Drive also is a good sprinter, with a 0 to 62-time of just 3.9 seconds it still is a proper supercar! The topspeed is limited to 155 mph, not fast compared to the petrol-powered SLS but quite fast for an electric car! The radius isn’t known yet. Charging at a normal 220 volt socket takes 20 hours! Happily you can also charge it faster with direct current. We can expect the first cars on the streets in June 2013. In Germany the car will cost € 416.500,-, when we calculate that to British pounds that’s around 330.000 pounds. The price for the UK and the US isn’t available yet.
