Porsche 996 GT1 is an almost forgotten street racer

Ask a car fanatic to name a list of special Porsches and only a few will name the 996 GT1. That´s not very strange, because this model is limited to only 25 copies. This car can easily be placed next to the Mercedes/Benz CLK GTR AMG, because this car is just as brutal and expensive. We prefer the car in another colour but this is still a very special spot.

A restriction of the FIA GT1 championship was the fact that the race car needed to be homologated. That means that the manufacturer has to build some street legal versions. We´re talking about the year 1997 and Porsche wants to show everybody that they can compete in this prestigious championship. They built the GT1, based on the 996 and they built 25 street legal versions. These street legal versions were very fast. The sprint to 100 kph took 3.2 seconds and the car has a top speed of 312 kph. Most of the 25 copies can be found in private collections and won´t get on the streets anymore. This yellow copy is a car we´ve seen on Autogespot before and we hope to see it more often!
