Rare Ford GT Supercar Headed For The Auction Block

A 2018 Ford GT Heritage Edition is expected to fetch upwards of seven figures when it is put on the block at a Mecom Auctions event in November in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is one of the rarest versions of the Ford GT supercar range and will be available to anyone with a king's ransom in their pocket that can make it to Las Vegas in November. The top side estimates of what the car will eventually go for are astronomical, taking into consideration how rare this model of the Ford GT is and the fact that used 2018 GT models are selling for over $1-million on the used supercar market.

The Ford GT is an iconic car range and has stamped its name on the motoring industry on many occasions. Its popularity has led to its likeness appearing in several industries outside of motoring too. The video game industry, in particular, is a huge fan of the supercar, which appears in countless titles from Need for Speed Heat to just about every edition of Gran Tourismo ever created.

This popularity has extended into the iGaming industry too and it is no surprise that games like the Jackpot GT title are listed on many of the best-rated slot sites online. The film and television industries are also a huge fan of the car and there are no less than seven full pages of listings of its appearance on-screen on the Internet Movie Cars Database (IMCDB).

What makes this specific car so special is that it belongs to a range of just four Heritage Editions that all celebrate unique moments in Ford's history. The 2018 edition, for example, is an ode to the historic 1967 Le Mans-winning Ford GT model and it is stunningly beautiful. There were only 500 2018 Ford GTs made and only a few of those were available as the'67 heritage edition.

"In creating a worthy successor to the 2017 heritage edition, we logically looked at our next historic Le Mans victory with the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt. The 2018 Ford GT '67 Heritage edition pays homage to that win, with a modern take on one of the most important vehicles in Ford's storied history of racing," said Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Performance at the time, in a press release.

The 2018 model's engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 that produces 647 horsepower and 746 newton-metres of torque. It can go from 0 to 100km/h (60mph) in just 2.8 seconds and will reach a top speed of around 347km/h (216mph). It is a unique beast in almost every facet of the phrase. The glossy Race Red paint job and white racing stripes mean it is dressed to impress as well.

The first three heritage editions celebrate cars Ford entered into Le Mans. The first, released in 2016, paid tribute to the GT40 Mark II Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon used in the 1966 race. The version going up for auction was part of the second run of heritage edition cars while the third edition was a celebration of the car that won back-to-back Le Mans races in 1968 and 1969. The fourth edition has not been released yet and is only expected to be unveiled in 2021. It is also expected to be the first version that will not relate to the Le Mans 24-Hour race in any way.

There is no denying it is a breathtaking car. The rarity and price tag mean it will only be a motor for massive Ford enthusiasts and petrol heads but, for those that can afford one, it certainly is one heck of a machine.
