Site news: Spot of the Day gets a small adjustment

Yesterday the first renewed Spot of the Day election took place. We've decided to make a small adjustment in response to a few spots that kept on winning the Spot of the Day election and as a request by a lot of users we've decided to make a small adjustment as a test.

Normally it was possible to choose every spot in the Spot of the Day election. The Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 by DMC and in the past the Bugatti Veyron won these elections a lot and that's why we decided to test the following adjustment. Now only the so-called 'starspots', the first spot of a car in a particular city, can be selected as Spot of the Day. With this adjustment we want to prevent to show you the same car as Spot of the Day every day. Beware, this is only a test for now. When we get positive feedback to this adjustment we will keep using this new rule!

I agree. Seeing the same car spot of the day during a week is boring

It is like that for some countries, but I get to see 10-15 cars per month and most of them are already spotted,so if this rule is here to stay I have nothing to do on autogespot anymore.Vast majority of cars I upload are RS Audis,M BMWs,AMGs and 911s,and none of those are really SOTD contenders. :(
So yeah,if things stay like this,I'll stop uploading since it will become MASSIVE waste of time for me.

Seeing it from your view it is not funny at all, I agree with you too.
Maybe the Crew of AG can only "ban" being SOTD the same car more than once during the same month or something like that.

I don't like this rule. I win only 6 spots of the day and only two have a star.

This is stupid. You can do that but in countries like Germany, UK, Monaco etc. Here in Serbia I am happy if I see one car with a star per day.

Very cool and good idea ; but the fact is that at that time we didn't give to others spotters the chance to gain the Spot of the Day with the same "strong" car, and also probably, they want to have a "trophy" for Spot of the Day. Put yourself in their place; because we didn't "give" them a chance, they would be discouraged and they had no more desire to upload spots. The only thing I would change is the removal of control over the "strong" spots, because a large part of spotters removes of its "strong" spot, as it doesn't win the Spot of the Day, just to upload it again because they want him to win, but he don't change it, adds new photos, combo, etc. uploads it just back to win the Spot of the Day......and it is not fair to the other spotters

This is rubbish, again. Less than half of my spots are first spots, because some guys spot all cars the very same day they appear on road, while I only get to go spotting a few times a year. Or take the following example: a Koenigsegg Regera appears in London, somebody spots only its back, one or two photos, than it disappears. It shows up months later, and somebody manages to take pictures from all directions in a high quality, 10 perfect photos, but he can't take part in SOTD anymore, and a 911 Carrera or a BMW M5 F10 will take SOTD, because those are the only cars in London which were not photographed yet. This rule is totally awful, it wasn't even though about. Please withdraw it. If this stays, I would stop uploading for good. (Not that my spots and work are appreciated here anyways...)

Oh and I forgot to add that this will kill all our motivation, because whats the point in running after a 918 Spyder if we won't get the appreciation for it? It will be great fun indeed to see only 911s, BMW M6s and Mercedes G63s as SOTDs, while all Veyrons, Ageras, 918s and LaFerraris will be excluded as all of them were spotted before. Bye-bye London, Cannes and Monaco summers! Instead, we can now choose from 3 Porsches or BMWs every day. It totally puts the emphasis on who is the luckiest to catch a car first, and after it, its all gone for the others. It is negative discrimination. It is not by chance that the 918 Spyders and DMC Huracans win SOTD, because the community votes for them, as they are the best spots of the day. You can't match eg. a Bentley Continental to a Veyron SuperSport, no matter how many times the Bugatti was spotted before. This is the whole point: give everyone the chance to spot a car, and if thats the most massive spot, than let him take the SOTD. The community will decide anyways. If they think that a Veyron is boring and an S63 deserves the SOTD, then they will vote for the S63. This was the system before, spotters decided, I don't know whats the point in excluding great spots and discouraging new, beginner or simply not so lucky spotters.

This rule is going to ruined AGS at all. Here in Poland we will have to take pics of the some boring cars like carrera, S63, etc, because it will be no reason to photograph Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc. AGS will be full of rubbish cars spots and full of rubbish photos of good cars... and of course a lots of spotters will stop uploading new spots, it's shame for me because I have started my Autogespot expirence just few months ago, and i have a tons of great pics to upload but almost all of them are pics of the cars that they are already in Autogespot :-(

The Spot of the year, the one:1, would have been impossible with this bad rule!
Imagine you would see a MC12 which wasnt spotted for years in the city. I think it was SOTD-worth!!!

Some good points have been brought up in this discussion. I slightly agree with the purpose of this rule. Last August, when Porsche 918 was seen in Warsaw for some days, I could predict that this will become the instant Spot of the Day on the day someone uploaded it. But that rule might discourage some spotters from larger cities with large spotter communities (like Warsaw or Poznań) to upload spots, because when a car seen for the first time by one spotter wins SotD, the others would not feel such joy in spotting the same car. Surely, that would induce competition between spotters, but such competition could break good relations between spotters. And as others mentioned, AGS would be flooded with crappy photos of cars like 918, LaF, Huayra, G63 6x6 and so on, uploaded only to win SotD.

They have deleted it because they did not agree on their motherfucking stupid "rules". This whole page is dictatorship, someone should oversee the admins.

@Stefan Sobot @michu2244 @ShaytonSky @UrosP not deleted. Someone reported them as not okay! Got them back :) Thanks for the feedback. As stated it is only a test and we are listening to our users. So maybe we can adjust the system a little bit more :) But I hope you agree we had to do something about the same SOTD's that showed up daily in a lot of countries

The other solution might be blocking the SOTD for one month. So people can not participate in the SOTD for one month with that car in the same city. If someone uploads the same car that was spotted on the same day in the same city it can be deleted because he is only waiting to upload it to win Spot of the day.. Just some thoughts.. Would love to hear yours [@Stefan Sobot] @michu2244 @ShaytonSky @UrosP

In this case sorry about the uproar. Still you have to admit this is totally unfair. I will not upload a single spot anymore if this rule stays. :/

@Boink well, to be honest that's almost the same thing. Why would it be deleted ? For me, best solution in this whole story is to forgot the stars but same car can't win SOTD again in the next 7 days (I think a month is too long). It's stupid 'cause what if someone takes better shots ? You have to understand that not all countries are like UK for example. There are days when I don't see a single exotic, I don't want to mention cars with stars.

@Boink That seems quite okay, but as Uros said, insted of star cars make it that SVDD winning car can't be entered in voting in next 30 days.Simply, something new is going to show up in that time and car that was special 30 days ago is not that new anymore so the new car will anyway win. Also that would mean that we in less popular countries can still win our SVDDs without needing to always find new cars to get it.I,for once, support that idea. Both sides should be happy with that.
