It’s been seven years since this McLaren P1 LM was first revealed. At a place where a lot of magic happens: the Nürburgring. That’s where this beast is tamed and developed. A few years later, it’s spotted in London.
This is the McLaren P1 LM XP1, the first experimental prototype of the P1 LM by Lanzante. They convert a P1 GTR into the LM version, removing parts that are mandatory in racing. In doing so, they even managed to make the car 60 kilograms lighter! This weight reduction comes from removing the GTR’s air jacks, using lightweight seats (apparently from the F1 GTR), plastic windows, and titanium screws and fasteners. This way, they achieve a significant weight loss. And here’s the real kicker: Lanzante improved the aerodynamics, as pointless as that may seem for road use. A modified rear wing and a larger front splitter provide 40 percent more downforce than the P1 GTR. This means the LM is actually faster on the track than the GTR. It’s no surprise, then, that Kenny Brack set a record with the LM at the Goodwood Hill Climb in 2016!
