The Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, it's back!

Chevrolet chose the New York Motor Show as moment to introducé the new Chevrolet Camaro. However, Chevrolet did something unusual. All eyes are focused on the Camaro Z/28 which stands next to the Camaro SS. A circuit car for the American with petrol in his veins!

The Camaro 2014 models have a modified exterior, especially because of better aerodynamics. This gives the car better cooling and more stability on high speeds. Of course also the looks are up to date. The Z/28 has an even more complete aerodynamics package, which creates even more downforce. This is the most track-focussed Camaro ever made by the company.

The first Camaro Z/28 was introduced back in 1967. Chevrolet built the car to homologate themselves for the Sports Car Club of America Trans-Am class. The coupé had a lighter and smaller V8 for a better weight distribution, quick-ratio steering proportion and a track-tuned chassis. The new Z/28 isn’t only built for racing specifically, but also for individual use on the track. During the testing, on a unmentioned track, the Z/28 was three seconds faster than the more powerful ZL1. The extra speed on the track was caused by better brakes, more grip, and reduced weight. With the weight reducing, Chevrolet made an outmost effort to get their goal. For instance, there’s no upholstery of the trunk and airco is optional.

Under the bonnet a LS7-engine is placed, a seven liter V8 which also powers the Corvette Z06. This engine is lighter, and more suitable for the track than the LS3-engine of the ZL1. The LS7-engine gives at least 500 bhp and 637 Nm of torque. Only a manual transmission is possible for this car.
