The Taycan will be the first all-electric vehicle built by Porsche and will be released in 2019. We were amazed by this all-electric sports car when it was first unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show under the “Mission E” concept name. We weren’t as keen on trying to calculate car insurance on this beast, because we’re sure it’s not going to be pretty. It’ll still be more than worth it, though. At the moment, Porsche is fine-tuning the Taycan and studying its performance on about 100 test mules, which are being examined globally. Let’s look over a few key features of this “lively young horse” as referred to by its name.
Design
The Taycan is a genuine sports car, there’s no doubt about it. However, it has the form of a four-door saloon. Classic Porsche elements clearly reveal the Taycan’s iconic heritage. The arrow front is similar to the Porsche 918 Spyder and it incorporates the aerodynamics of a race car. The front fenders, flat hood lines, and side windows are close to the design of the Porsche 911. The integrated aerodynamics increase the Taycan’s agility, using carefully engineered air outlets and intakes on the front, sides, and rear of the car. It’s obvious that Porsche doesn’t underestimate its electric vehicle’s need for a smart cooling system. The Taycan’s extreme engineering increases airflow around the wheels, while the outlets reduce pressure in the wheel arches, keeping this stallion grounded. Flow always follows function with Porsche sports cars. You’ll notice the matrix LED headlights hovering inside the air intakes. Four points surround the driver assistance sensor and the border acts as a turn signal. You won’t find any side mirrors on the Taycan because they’re replaced by cameras positioned on the sides of the vehicle. You can open the rear-hinged doors using delicately integrated handles.
Performance
Now, for the thrilling part. The Taycan is designed to develop 600 bhp powered by a lithium-ion battery with an output of 270 watt-hours per kilogram. The battery is connected to a couple of electric motors placed on each side axle, providing four-wheel drive capabilities. You’ll find the speed technology features of the 919 hybrid Porsche in the Taycan, which allow a sprint from 0 to 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. The maximum speed this beast can hit is an outrageous 155 mph.
You won’t waste much time charging the car because within only 15 minutes you’ll add 248.5 miles worth of range. The total charging limit levels out at 310 miles.
Price
We expect the Taycan to reach around 90,000 USD making it a direct competitor of the renowned Tesla. Car insurance premiums on electric vehicles are on the rise in the UK and can cost up to 60% more than petrol equivalents. A test quote showed that a female driver aged between 30 and 55 would pay an insurance policy of 700
USD for a petrol car and 960 USD for a similar electric vehicle. To calculate the car insurance premium and get ready for the Taycan you can reach out to your local insurance company.
Conclusion
It’s no wonder we adore Porsche. The company took things to the next level this year and launched the Mission E Cross Turismo concept crossover version at the Geneva Motor Show.
