2014, a year with some adjustments for Autogespot on technical field. In a close cooperation with PCextreme we’ve adjusted our hosting to improve the performance. PCextreme recently wrote a story about the hosting of Autogespot and we love to share this story with you!
Autogespot is an international platform where car fanatics meet, share photos and follow the latest news about exclusive cars. The site is founded ten years ago and PCextreme provides the hosting for eight years already.
Autogespot was founded in 2004 and it quickly proved to be a success. Since 2006, Autogespot is hosted at PCextreme. Autogespot started with a Webhosting package and soon this was changed to a Virtual Private Server. Another year later, in 2007, Winus joined the Autogespot as developer and the website was transferred to a number of Dedicated servers to keep up with the growth of Autogespot.
Meanwhile, Autogespot has up to 865.000 unique visitors per month from all over the world 225.000 visitors are from the Netherlands, 100.000 from Germany and 88.000 are from Belgium. The heart of the website are the spots. Everybody with a camera can spot an exclusive car and upload their photos to share these with other car fanatics. The site has a total of 466.267 spots with over 6.000.000 photos in three different formats. To facilitate the growth of visitors, spots and data Autogespot has set up a Managed hosting environment in cooperation with PCextreme.
After a few months of preparation, Autogespot is transferred from her Dedicated servers to PCextreme’s cloud platform in May 2014. We use Aurora Compute for the website itself and Aurora Objects to manage the over 6.000.000 photos from the spots.
In cooperation with Autogespot we gained a lot of speed by using Varnish cache, we split the site itself and its content and by optimizing the Symfony based code of the website. Loading pages takes less time than before and the number of visitors keeps increasing after the transfer in May. Thanks to our smart and intensive cooperation we’ve managed to get a good performance with relatively low resources.
Autogespot and PCextreme have big ambitions for the future. The site keeps on growing with new spots and users from all over the world. PCextreme cooperates by improving the flexibility and scalability of its Cloud platform and facilitating the growth of Autogespot.
