As every year, The Ice event in St. Moritz was scheduled for the end of February. It was supposed to span two days: Friday, when the cars are exhibited, and Saturday, when all the vehicles race around on the lake. In fact, the entire event was canceled due to the weather. Nevertheless, it wasn't in vain to make the trip to St. Moritz.
Just a week ago, White Turf, one of the most famous horse races on the St. Moritz lake, had to be canceled. The reason there was that it was too warm. People were already worried about the sacred car event, The Ice. But then, suddenly, it got cold again, and there was a pretty good chance the event could take place. However, not only did it get cold again, but the entire winter that had been missed in the past few weeks returned in one night. Such massive amounts of snow came down that even driving on the roads became a nightmare. Even the only open access pass to St. Moritz, the Julier Pass, had such problems that one could easily spend between four to five hours in traffic due to all the vehicles that couldn't handle the snow masses.
Nevertheless, most of the vehicles arrived in St. Moritz a day earlier, so they were all ready for the event. Unfortunately, on Friday, it was decided with a heavy heart that the cars couldn't drive onto the ice for the exhibition. By then, there was already between 60-70 cm of fresh snow. This can naturally only be removed very poorly on the ice. So, it was decided to prepare the entire Friday for Saturday, so that at least then the cars could go onto the ice. However, the snow just didn't stop. So, on Saturday, the main event also had to be canceled. Nevertheless, all the visitors came, and with the craziest cars. It was really worth just standing on the roadside for a few minutes and watching the cars driving around the village. Some of the highlights include a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, an Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato, a Vanquish Zagato shooting brake, and many other cars. Here are some of the fascinating vehicles that were on display, despite the event being canceled...
