From Ferris wheels to exclusive, custom Mercedes-AMGs, Roland Bussink is behind some truly extraordinary creations. His latest project, the Mercedes-AMG GT S C190 Bussink Speedlegend, is a stunning addition to his impressive portfolio. Alongside this, we've also seen the first creation, three of the five AMG GT RS C190 Bussink Rote Sau, as well as three of the five Mercedes-AMG GT R C190 Bussink Speedlegends, each exemplifying Bussink's expertise and vision.
Roland Bussink, originally from The Hague in the Netherlands, has been a pioneer in the amusement industry since 1980. Over the years, he has secured more than 10 patents for innovations in amusement rides and holds three Guinness World Records for his groundbreaking inventions: the Evolution Ride, the Top of The World Portable Observation Tower, and the R80XL Giant Observation Wheel.
Giant Observation Wheels, in particular, have become Bussink’s passion, and he often remarks, “I didn’t invent the wheel, but I made it better.” More than 100 Bussink installations have been successfully executed worldwide, all still operational today - a testament to their exceptional quality and durability.
His journey into transforming amusement attractions began after designing a Giant Observation Wheel for Paris in 2000, marking the new millennium. Bussink recognized the potential to elevate these iconic structures into standalone attractions, and he quickly began offering them to governments and developers seeking high-impact landmarks with lasting appeal.

Let’s take a closer look at Bussink’s first venture into the automotive sector: the AMG GT RS C190 Bussink Rote Sau. In 2017, Mercedes-AMG marked its 50th anniversary, and to celebrate this milestone, they decided to collaborate with Bussink on a limited run of five high-performance sports cars inspired by the brand’s history.

When Bussink proposed the idea of honoring AMG’s first official race car, the iconic "Rote Sau," the Mercedes-AMG team immediately gave the green light. Based on the Mercedes-AMG GT R producing 577 hp, the resulting Mercedes-AMG GT RS Rote Sau was re-engineered with extraordinary performance, boasting an incredible 840 hp and 1038 Nm of torque. This tribute to the past not only celebrated the legacy of AMG but also pushed the boundaries of performance to new heights.

The second creation from Bussink emerged with the AMG GT R C190 Bussink Speedlegend. With an impressive 850 hp and a wealth of carbon-fiber lightweight components, the Bussink GT R Speedlegend is a modern interpretation of a high-performance speedster, delivering the thrilling sensation of Formula 1 on the road. Whether you’re driving aggressively or cruising leisurely, this roadster surpasses all expectations.
As its striking design suggests, the realization of such a project demands an equally unconventional designer. The Speedlegend was conceived and crafted by Ronald Bussink, who took charge of the vehicle’s design and development. A lifelong car enthusiast and "Friend of the Brand" with Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG, Bussink has been a passionate collector for decades. As a member of the exclusive “Circle of Excellence,” he maintains close relationships with key figures at Daimler, frequently exchanging ideas on design and contributing his insights. His ultimate goal has always been to enhance the driving experience, focusing on the needs of both the user and the enthusiast.

Now let’s take a look at the latest creation, the AMG GT S C190 Bussink Speedlegend. While it may not be as hardcore as the AMG GT R version, it is no less exclusive and still shares many traits with the AMG GT R. The two-seat sports car is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster. The Bussink GT S Speedlegend was built in Affalterbach to Ronald Bussink’s specifications, with the help of AMG’s neighbor, HWA AG, known for its expertise in bespoke creations and small-series production.
Based on the AMG GT S, this version of the Bussink Speedlegend is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine delivering 515 hp. The power is managed through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Since the GT S is the foundation, the car is equipped with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, “Race Mode” and “Race Start” settings for the adaptive AMG Dynamic Select drivetrain, adaptive AMG Ride Control suspension, and an AMG Performance exhaust system.
The Bussink GT S Speedlegend is a modern interpretation of a high-performance sports car with a Formula 1 feel. Like the GT R Speedlegend, the topless GT S Speedlegend, with its shortened windows and A-pillars, exudes an exotic and one-of-a-kind presence. Its design evokes memories of the SLR Stirling Moss. The roll bar and curved windscreen were completely redesigned from scratch. The carbon fiber roll bar (Speedbow) is designed to protect the driver and passenger in the event of an accident, resembling a Formula 1 Halo system. The Speedbow extends from the hood over the cabin to the two Speeddome structures at the rear. Ambient lighting is integrated into the inner sides of the Speedbow.
The one-of-a-kind Bussink GT S Speedlegend is finished in Designo Selenite Grey and features an exclusive cream leather interior. The package includes a special Speedlegend rain cover and two racing helmets, both signed by Ronald Bussink.
