The Next Bugatti Legend To Be Called Elisabeth Junek

After unveiling the third Legend’s edition that paid tribute to Meo Costantini at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show, Bugatti is all set to announce their next edition of the six-part special series at the upcoming 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The 4th Legend’s edition will be called the GrandSport Vitesse “Elisabeth Junek”, that pays tribute to a known Bugatti driver who proved to other hairy chested drivers that women can race.

The Next Bugatti Legend To Be Called Elisabeth JunekThe story goes like this. Elisabeth Junek was the wife of Cenek Junek, a banker from Prague. The couple owned Bugattis that they used to race together, where Elisabeth continuously outpaced her husband, surprising him as well as other drivers in her era. She rose to fame at the Targa Florio in 1928 where she was leading the race. Behind her were well known male drivers like Alberto Divo, Giuseppe Campari, Tazio Nuvolari. One could easily assume that the race victory belonged to her. Towards the end however, a defective brake forced her to hand the lead to Divo, eventually finishing fifth in the race. Nevertheless she proved something that is still frowned upon and for that she was welcomed back to her native country, Czechoslovakia as a hero.

As usual, the Elisabeth Junek edition will be based on a 1200-bhp GrandSport Vitesse that is currently the world’s fastest “official” roadster. The colors for the Vitesse will be inspired by the Bugatti Blue Type 35B that she drove at the 1928 Targo Florio.

We’ll be covering the Geneva Motor Show to bring you live pictures and the latest details on the GrandSport Vitesse “Elisabeth Junek” as well as other interesting launches.
