A visit to tuner TechArt in Leonberg

The TechArt Magnum is one of the best sold bodykits for the Porsche Cayenne worldwide. This Magnum bodykit is the perfect example to show what TechArt is about. They want to make something that’s already special even more unique, of high quality and individual. TechArt is founded in 1987 and even the worldwide crisis wasn’t a problem for the Porsche tuner from Leonberg. We visited the tuner in November to get to know more about one of the most famous and biggest Porsche tuners in the world.

Ambitious in a special economic period
Staying exclusive, keeping a high quality and being the biggest. TechArt is a very ambitions company which is trying to conquer the world with their exclusive Porsches. The company is active in more than thirty different countries and sells products which pass the heavy TÜV tests. Worldwide, dozens of company sell TechArt products. TechArt offers a wide package of components to personalize your Porsche, from single components to complete cars. This makes it possible to create a worldwide network of companies that sell TechArt’s products.

The heavy economic period resulted in the bankruptcy of a lot of specialized tuning companies. In Germany, 9ff and SpeedART didn’t make it while TechArt keeps on growing. What’s their key to success? The worldwide coverage and strong name of TechArt are one of the key elements. TechArt is trying to keep up with the more and more dynamic and demanding market by introducing new and unique products. Most important is a good balance between exclusivity and selling enough products. This balance

In this heavy economic period, the company is extending in the BRIC countries. A great example are the models which were presented on the IAA in Frankfurt, the Gold Edition & China Edition. Both cars are made for the Asian market. The Asian market is a special and very interesting market for exclusive tuning companies. In these markets it isn’t only about sales but a stable and long-term relationship are just as important . A company like TechArt needs to use a different approach than they’re used to in Germany.

On Autogespot, we can see that TechArt sells products worldwide. When we look at the top of range model, the GTstreet, which is based on the 997 Turbo, we see that this car is spotted in the United States, Lithuania, Turkey and Kazakhstan. A special project by TechArt were three cars for a customer in Tunisia, these cars were all painted in the same colour as the owner’s sunglasses. Several other TechArt models are spotted in Tunisia and Morocco. It shows us that the TechArt products can be found all over the world!

A look in the showroom
We’re welcomed by the PR-manager in the cozy showroom which is filled with six cars. From the Magnum to the most brutal version of the 997 Turbo, the GTstreet RS with 700 hp, to a beautiful new TechArt 991 which is adjusted for an extra 100.000,- Euros. Being exclusive has a price. This 991 Carrera 4S has a completely new interior and the Aerodynamic kit I. All designs in the showroom are made by one designer. TechArt wants to keep the same style of design for every car. Working with only one developer makes this possible.

TechArt always makes two versions of all the Porsches they tune, a so-called Aerodynamic pack I and II. All optical components can also be ordered as single part. Other optional extras at TechArt are wheels, exhaust system and engine tuning. Important with engine tuning is that it still needs to be reliable and stable. A Porsche Panamera Turbo, the GrandGT, will have a maximum power of 630 hp and the Cayenne Turbo can be boosted to 660 hp. TechArt has five employees who’re fulltime working on the development of the engines. You can order everything at TechArt just the way you like it.

From the showroom we head to the workshop where work is being done to several cars, including the new 991 Turbo S, for which they’re developing the first TechArt components. From simple maintenance to complete conversions, it’s all been done in this workshop. Next to the workshop, we also take a look at the place where the Porsche interiors are refurbished. TechArt often gets a request to completely refurbish an interior. The most crazy interior were a denim and a pink interior. Everything’s possible as long as you pay enough money!

What is the image of tuning?
For years already, the image of tuning is a very interesting subject to talk about. Sports car manufacturers keep on producing more and more cars so the demand for a individual product keeps on growing. Quite a lot football players drive around in a TechArt product. Mesut Özil and two Atletico Madrid players were spotted in a car by TechArt. Tuning actually means personalizing a car. Tuning isn’t all about power but it’s also about creating a unique car. TechArt showed us the immense amount of possibilities, varying from a complete bodykit to new interior. The image of tuning keeps on getting more positive and we read more and more about personalizing instead of modifying. Composing a unique car is an enrichment in a world where even exclusive products aren’t always that exclusive.
