Geneva 2013: Audi S3 Sportback

The Audi S3 Sportback will be available from September, still the car is already shown in Geneva, next to all the other sporty models from Audi. The new S3 Sportback has made a big improvement compared with its predecessor. But is the car good enough to compete with the BMW M135i and the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG? To answer that question, we first need to drive the car soon. After the introduction of the three door S3, the S3 Sportsback is introduced in Geneva.

The Audi S3 is one of the many sporty cars of the last year which has the performance of a sports car. Back in the days, a Porsche 991 or a Ferrari F355 had the same amount of power you see in a hot hatch nowadays. Every hot hatch offers a great performance without losing the fact that you can use the car daily. That’s the same story with this S3. In the front, we find a four-cylinder turbo engine which produces 300 hp and 380 Nm of torque. That’s less than the A 45 AMG which has up to 340 (!) hp. The sprint from zero to 100 kph takes five seconds for this Audi, thanks to the S Tronic transmission. Just like every German hot hatch, the top speed is limited at 250 kph.

The looks of every S-model from Audi are almost the same. The S3 has some S3 logos all over the car, aluminum details on the grill, mirrors and it also has a sporty front bumper. Other optical details are bigger air intakes, four exhausts, a diffuser and rear spoiler. In the interior, not much has changed. Only the gauges, sport seats and pedals reveal the true nature of the S3 Sportback.
