When the BYD YangWang U9 was introduced some time ago, videos of this car went viral. The show that the manufacturers put on with this car was extreme. But is this Chinese car any good? Here comes the first prototype.
The Chinese know how to win people over with their cars. They just need to put on a spectacular enough show, and the car is already a topic of conversation among enthusiasts. BYD chose some very bizarre show effects. The first was that the car can make a jump. Yes, you heard correctly. The car can make a jump. Please don't ask what the point is of a hypercar being able to make a jump—we don't know either. When you drive up to a five-star hotel in the evening, it probably won't be a great advantage if the car can make a jump. The second thing the car did in the videos was drive around on just three wheels. Everyone thought that was crazy. However, you would be surprised how many other cars can do that too.
Here at the test drives on the Nürburgring, the BYD YangWang U9, however, had all four wheels mounted and did not make any jumps. Because here it was not about show effects but rather serious testing of a hypercar that should achieve more than just a few jumps. How the car performs in terms of driving remains difficult to say. The critical issue will probably be the quality. If you pay almost two million for a Chinese hypercar, you should indeed raise your expectations, because the price is extremely high.
