I found this 2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 parked on Watts Street in SoHo on 2/28/2026. The owner of this one is engaging in a practice known as "placard abuse". Basically, members of the NYPD, FDNY and similar organizations are issued these placards for their car and can only use them if they are on active duty. However, many of them use it as an excuse to not obey traffic laws, such as having a license plate on their car and keeping their inspection up to date. The kicker? These cars more often than not do not get tickets which would cost a normal person hundreds of dollars in fines. If this smells like corruption to you, you would be correct.
